Analyst: Prabowo-Megawati Meeting Reflects Harmony in Leadership
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Political analyst and Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR) Iwan Setiawan stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia’s fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri reflects harmony in national leadership. “Today we see a symbol that the elites in this country are very harmonious, even though they stand in different political positions,” Iwan said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday. According to him, the friendly impression from the meeting between Prabowo and the General Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) spreads optimism for Indonesia’s future, including understanding the importance of unity at the political elite level for the country’s progress. “The sight shown by these two great figures of the nation makes us feel calm and spreads optimism for Indonesia’s future,” he said. He mentioned that in the current uncertain global political and economic situation, it is important to combine solidarity from all elements of the nation. “Moreover, between Prabowo and Ibu Mega, they represent two determining political forces for the nation’s direction, namely Gerindra and PDIP. Politically, the public can see the undeniable fact that Prabowo and Megawati have no conflicts or disagreements,” he stated. “I think the content of their meeting discussed Indonesia’s economic and foreign political situation related to the outbreak of the Iran vs Israel-America war and possibly also national political dynamics,” Iwan continued. The meeting, he added, also refutes public speculation regarding the relationship between Prabowo and Megawati, which was rumoured to be strained because Megawati did not attend the meeting of national figures at the Presidential Palace during the Silaturahmi and National Discussion agenda on Tuesday (3/3) night. “That is what sparked speculation that the Prabowo-Megawati relationship was strained, and that perception was refuted today. Prabowo and Megawati actually appeared close,” he said.
