Jakarta (ANTARA) - Researcher from Indikator Politik Indonesia, Bawono Kumoro, stated that the detention of four TNI personnel over alleged involvement in the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus underscores the supremacy of the law and that no party is immune from the law in the era of President Prabowo Subianto.

The swift action by the National Police (Polri) and the openness of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in revealing the perpetrators behind the acid terror against Andrie Yunus is also worthy of positive appreciation.

“Moreover, this case has received special attention from President Prabowo Subianto, who has instructed the National Police Chief to thoroughly investigate who the perpetrators and intellectual actors are behind the terror against Andrie Yunus,” Bawono said in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

Bawono emphasised that the thorough revelation of who the perpetrators and intellectual actors are behind the acid terror case is important to dispel various assumptions and wild speculations currently circulating in the public sphere, such as accusations of state involvement behind the terror action against Andrie Yunus.

Such wild assumptions and speculations appear to be being constructed by certain parties with the intention of giving a negative image to the government of President Prabowo Subianto as an anti-criticism and anti-democracy administration.

“In addition to dispelling those wild assumptions and speculations, the detention of the four TNI members over alleged involvement in the acid terror against Andrie Yunus also demonstrates the state’s alignment with the continuity of the climate of freedom and democracy in Indonesia,” he said.

He stressed that there should not be a single act of violent terror affecting anyone in this country because they are critical of something or a government policy. Even if the violent terror is carried out by TNI soldiers.

“Therefore, support and oversight of the law enforcement apparatus’s work in uncovering this case must be carried out by us collectively without any excessive wild assumptions and speculations,” he added.

Previously, the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom) detained four TNI personnel over alleged involvement in the acid attack case against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.

TNI Puspom Commander Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto confirmed that the four individuals detained by Puspom TNI are TNI members serving in the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS). The four perpetrators are initialled NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.

He said the four suspects are now threatened with Article 467 of the Criminal Code Paragraphs 1 and 2, with a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison.

Yusri assured that Puspom TNI will work professionally and transparently, and will ensure that all findings by TNI investigators are openly presented in court.

“Puspom TNI will work professionally. We will later convey the stages, starting from the investigation process, filing, and then when handing over the file to the Military Prosecutor, so that it reaches the trial process,” he said.
