Analyst: Give Civil Society Space to Monitor Ongoing Revelation of Andrie Yunus Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Military analyst Aris Santoso believes that the TNI must provide space for the public to monitor the revelation of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
“Give space to civil society elements to continuously monitor the revelation of this case,” he stressed when contacted by Kompas.com on Friday (27/3/2026).
Aris emphasised that appreciation must be given to civil society elements.
This is because the resignation of Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo as Head of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) TNI can be read as the military institution’s response to public demands.
He added that this case can serve as an important lesson, particularly regarding the implementation of ad hoc courts.
For this reason, according to him, political commitment or political will from the TNI is still needed.
“The TNI needs to be transparent to the public regarding the revelation of this case; this is a matter of trust, considering that this case has garnered widespread public attention, even from the international community,” he said.
Previously reported, four personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ (TNI) Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) were involved in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
This was revealed after the TNI Headquarters Military Police Centre (Puspom) Mabes TNI received the handover of the suspects and announced it to the public on 18 March 2026 at 14:00 WIB.
They are from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches of the TNI.
Two of the four suspects were the executors of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
However, the other two are still under examination.
Nevertheless, the TNI Puspom has not yet disclosed the detailed roles, motives, or full chronology of the attack.
Most recently, the Head of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, has resigned from his position following the acid attack case on Andrie Yunus.
