Mount Anak Krakatau, located in the Sunda Strait, erupted twice on Saturday, July 25, 2026, according to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG). The first eruption occurred at 16:52 WIB, followed by a second at 18:00 WIB, with ash columns reaching approximately 300 metres above the peak. Suwarno, Head of the Anak Krakatau Observation Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, confirmed the activity and noted that the ash column was observed to be grey to black with thick intensity drifting northwest. He explained that the volcano’s activity remains fluctuating, and the potential for further eruptions persists. The increase in volcanic activity earlier in July prompted the Geological Agency to maintain the alert status at Level II (Waspada). Authorities have advised residents, tourists, and fishermen not to approach within a two-kilometre radius of the crater. The public is also urged to remain calm, monitor weather conditions before going to sea, and only follow official information from authorised agencies.
