Anak Krakatau Volcano Erupts Seven Times in a Day

Volcanic activity at Mount Anak Krakatau continues to intensify. On Monday (24/8), up to 12.00 WIB, the volcano located in Lampung had erupted seven times.

The Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) recorded eruptions at 09.41, 09.43, 10.11, 10.24, 10.48, 11.22, and 11.54 WIB. The height of the ash columns in the seven events reached 200-250 metres above the summit, or approximately 407 metres above sea level.

“The eruptions lasted a minimum of 20 seconds and a maximum of 1 minute 11 seconds,” explained Head of the Geological Agency Lana Saria.

She added that the current status of Mount Anak Krakatau is at Level III, or Siaga (Alert). Accordingly, PVMBG recommends that residents, visitors, tourists, and climbers do not approach Mount Anak Krakatau.

“We are restricting all activity within a 3-kilometre radius of the active crater,” she added.
