Anak Krakatau Erupts Again Tonight, Status Level III
Mount Anak Krakatau in Lampung erupted again on Sunday evening (6/9/2026). The Geological Agency, Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded the eruption at 20:23 WIB.
Based on information on Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity, the height of the ash column resulting from the eruption was not observed.
The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude reaching 58 millimetres (mm). The eruption duration was recorded at approximately 44 seconds.
Currently, Mount Anak Krakatau is at Status Level III or Siaga (Alert).
Members of the public, visitors, tourists, and climbers are asked not to approach Mount Anak Krakatau or carry out activities within a 3-kilometre radius of the active crater.
The prohibition is enforced in line with the status of Mount Anak Krakatau, which remains at Level III (Siaga).
The public is urged to follow official recommendations and information regarding Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity.
Previously, the active volcano in the waters of the Sunda Strait experienced continuous eruptions accompanied by rumbling sounds, bangs, and lava fountain ejections since 4 September 2026 at 23:00 WIB.
The eruption then stopped on Sunday, 6 September 2026 at 00:04 WIB, before finally occurring again tonight.
