Anak Krakatau Disrupts Swedish Crown Princess, Business Forum Plans

Jakarta. Indonesia’s volcano-related travel disruptions have affected Swedish Crown Princess Victoria and a planned bilateral business forum.

Stockholm has sent a high-level business delegation to coincide with Victoria’s trip to Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. Little did they know that the volcanic ash from the erupting Mount Anak Krakatau would trigger airport closures.

They were supposed to hold a business forum under the Sweden-Indonesia Sustainability Partnership framework in Jakarta on Tuesday. The conference, however, is now cancelled.

In a statement, the Swedish embassy cited Victoria’s inability to travel to Jakarta. The same goes for the Diana Janse, the state secretary to the foreign trade minister.

“While this development is unfortunate, it does not affect the strong and growing partnership between Sweden and Indonesia,” the press statement reads.

“Cooperation within the SISP framework will continue. … Both countries remain committed to advancing dialogue, innovation, and sustainable collaboration across priority sectors.”

They also wrote that “many of the sector-specific sessions remain”.

Victoria is in Indonesia in her role as the UNDP Goodwill Ambassador.

She was in Jakarta to visit the Istiqlal Mosque last Friday before heading to West Nusa Tenggara.

The province’s Lombok International Airport is temporarily closed to Jakarta-bound flights. The Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which is located just outside Jakarta, stays shut.

According to the business forum’s rundown, Victoria was supposed to attend its opening ceremony with Indonesian chief infrastructure minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono.

The Swedish business delegation has named forestry, mining, life science, and renewable energy on top of its priority list.

Indonesia’s trade with Sweden amounted to $507 million in January-July 2026. Jakarta ran a $290.2 million deficit following imports of automotives and machinery, government data showed. Their businesses will soon enjoy tariff eliminations under an upcoming European Union free trade agreement.

Investment inflows from Sweden to Indonesia totaled roughly $23.7 million in the first half of 2026.
