Anak Krakatau Ash Spreads, Traces Visible from Lampung to Bogor

The spread of volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau has affected a number of areas in Lampung, Banten, West Java, and DKI Jakarta on Sunday (6/9/2026). Volcanic ash was visible in several areas and disrupted public activities, including fishing and aviation.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the volcanic ash spread was moving in a northeast-south direction at altitudes of up to 20,000 feet. The spread covered parts of DKI Jakarta, Banten, and West Java.

In Bandar Lampung, Lampung, residents found volcanic ash falling in a number of areas. Similar impacts were also felt in several other areas in Lampung, such as Pesawaran, South Lampung, Tanggamus, and West Coast.

Meanwhile in Labuan, Pandeglang, Banten, hundreds of fishing boats remained moored. Local fishermen said they had not gone to sea for the past two days in the waters of the Sunda Strait due to conditions affected by the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

The impact of the ash spread was also visible in Bogor, West Java. Workers cleaned volcanic ash that had settled in the Bogor City Hall area.

Flight activities at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, were also affected. Officers covered aircraft engines parked on the Terminal 1C apron using special materials to prevent volcanic ash from entering the engines.

In Jakarta, officers from the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency distributed masks to residents exercising during the Car-Free Day (HBKB) in the Bundaran HI area. The mask distribution was carried out as a precautionary measure against the impact of the volcanic ash spread.

The spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has forced public activities in a number of areas to adapt to the air and environmental conditions resulting from the eruption.
