Anak Krakatau Ash Moving Away from Lampung, Here is the Spread Direction

The distribution of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has been observed moving away from the Lampung region. This is influenced by wind directions around the Sunda Strait, which are carrying eruption materials towards the south-southwest.

According to analysis from Himawari-9 satellite imagery, the volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has been identified at an altitude of approximately 7,000 feet or 2.1 kilometres. The volcanic ash is seen moving towards parts of southwestern Banten and the Indian Ocean, southwest of Banten.

BMKG Radin Inten II weather forecaster, Iqbal Arief Pangestu, stated that wind directions around the Sunda Strait are causing the volcanic ash to move away from the Lampung area. This data was recorded at 10:00 WIB.

“For the conditions from this morning to midday, winds around the Sunda Strait from the lower layer up to an altitude of 3,000 feet are generally blowing from the southeast. Meanwhile, at the 5,000-foot layer, winds are blowing from the northeast,” said Iqbal.

Iqbal noted that these conditions are causing the volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau to be carried more towards the south-southwest.

“So, based on current monitoring, the distribution of volcanic ash is moving away from the Lampung region,” he added.
