Jakarta – The Ministry of Public Works has confirmed the readiness of national highway routes in West Sumatra to accommodate the flow of Eid holiday travellers and return traffic during the 2026 Eid period, including the operation of the Anai Valley route for 24 hours during the holiday exodus.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo stated that the government is committed to maintaining the connectivity of national roads in the region, particularly on major routes that serve as conduits for public movement.

Hanggodo explained that the Padang–Bukittinggi route is one of the primary travel corridors for the public in West Sumatra.

“We will ensure that work on high-risk points, such as Anai Valley and Sitinjau Lauik, continues to be accelerated so that the public can undertake their holiday travel safely and comfortably,” Hanggodo said on Monday (16 March 2026).

Routine maintenance, patching, and improvements to road surface quality are being carried out continuously to ensure the comfort and safety of road users.

Work on the Padang–Bukittinggi section is focusing on a number of strategic points previously affected by natural disasters, including the Anai Valley area.

During the period from H-10 to H+10 Eid, the route will be operational around the clock to support the smooth flow of outbound and return traffic during the 2026 Eid holiday.

Currently, work progress in the Anai Valley area has reached approximately 44 per cent, with bore pile foundation work at 78 per cent completion.

Although still under construction, the route remains operational to serve the movement of traffic during the holiday travel period.

Additionally, the Margayasa Twin Bridge will also be operated at full capacity to support the smooth flow of vehicle traffic on the Padang–Bukittinggi corridor.

On the Sitinjau Lauik route, which is currently undergoing flyover construction, technical engineering measures are being implemented by adjusting the position of barriers towards the drainage system to maintain optimal route capacity for vehicle movement.

To ensure on-ground readiness, the Ministry of Public Works has prepared 13 holiday travel command posts distributed along national highway routes throughout West Sumatra.

A total of 40 heavy equipment units have been deployed to anticipate potential disruptions such as landslides, fallen trees, or other emergency conditions that could hamper holiday travellers.

Through these various measures, the Ministry of Public Works is ensuring that national road infrastructure in West Sumatra is ready so that public travel during the 2026 Eid holiday can proceed safely, smoothly, and comfortably.
