An Unusual Monday Morning: How Smoothly Jakarta Flows During the Eid Holiday
A calm atmosphere still prevailed on Jenderal Sudirman Street in Jakarta this morning. During the Eid holiday or H+2 of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, traffic appeared empty. Observations by detikcom at the location on Monday (23/3/2026) at 08:10 WIB showed vehicles passing along Jenderal Sudirman Street to be sparse. There was no congestion on the road this morning. Several residents were seen exercising and jogging along the street. There were also residents still cycling. In addition, the empty atmosphere continued in the Pancoran and Kuningan areas heading towards Sudirman. Normally, on a Monday morning commute, this road would be crowded with vehicles, but this morning it remained quiet and peaceful. As is known, Transport Minister (Menhub) Dudy Purwagandhi urged Eid returnees to avoid the peak return flow for Eid 2026. Returnees are expected not to pile up during the return flow, which is predicted to occur three times. The peak Eid return flow is predicted to fall on 24, 28, and 29 March 2026. The predicted peak return volume is expected to be higher than the outbound peak. “Based on the calculations we obtained at JMTC, the peak return flow is predicted to fall on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, with an estimated volume of more than 285,000 vehicles. This number is larger than the outbound peak on 18 March 2026 of 270,315 vehicles. Therefore, we urge the public to return to Jabotabek on 23 March 2026 by utilising the joint leave, or during the period of 25-27 March 2025 by utilising the Work From Anywhere period urged by the Government,” said Dudy while inspecting the traffic flow on H+1 of Eid 2026 at the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC) on Sunday (22/03/2026).
