An-Nadzir Congregation in Gowa Sets Eid al-Adha for 26 May 2026
The An-Nadzir congregation in Gowa, South Sulawesi, has established that Eid al-Adha (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1447 Hijri) will fall on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. This determination was made following monitoring and calculations by a specialist moon observation team from various regions across Indonesia.
“Yes, we have established Eid al-Adha to fall on Tuesday (26 May),” said Al Ustadz M. Samiruddin Pademmui, leader of the An-Nadzir congregation, to CNN Indonesia on Saturday (23 May).
According to Samiruddin, An-Nadzir employs a methodology combining scriptural evidence from the Qur’an and Hadith with scientific approaches. This begins through observation of moon phases, starting with monitoring the full moon on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of the previous month, through to observations of the old lunar crescent on the eastern horizon using thin black cloth to view the arrangement of the moon’s shadow.
“We also pay attention to various natural phenomena such as rain, lightning, strong winds, and peak tidal waters, which are believed to be indicators of the month’s transition or conjunction (ijtima),” he explained.
Based on monitoring results, the An-Nadzir team stated that the transition from Dhul-Qa’dah to Dhul-Hijjah occurs on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at approximately 04:03 Western Indonesia Standard Time (WITA). At this moment, the sun is said to rise before the moon, which according to An-Nadzir methodology indicates the beginning of a new month or hilal (crescent moon).
“Because the month transitions from Dhul-Qa’dah to Dhul-Hijjah on Sunday, 17 May 2026, then 1 Dhul-Hijjah 1447 Hijri is counted as beginning on Sunday, 17 May 2026,” he explained.
The An-Nadzir congregation confirmed that the Eid al-Adha prayer for 1447 Hijri will be held on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at 07:00 WITA.
“Therefore, 10 Dhul-Hijjah, or Eid al-Adha, falls on Tuesday, 26 May 2026,” he stated.
Samiruddin emphasised that differences in methods for determining the start of the month are common within Islamic jurisprudence heritage. “Therefore, we call upon the Muslim community to address these differences with maturity, wisdom, and mutual respect,” Samiruddin said.
