An Assessment done among and by Drug Abusers and Addicts in Bali- 2003
Data collected by Yakita, Yayasan Hati-Hati and Yakeba. Interviews were done by addicts in recovery, reaching out to other addicts many areas of Bali. The survey involved a total of 81 respondents, consisting of 58 males and 23 females.
Summary:
* Around 45.68 percent respondent mothers are housewives. An estimate 64.20 percent of parents and are living together and 72.84 percent have a very attentive relationship with their parents. * 28.40 percent of respondents live in rented rooms and only 22.22 percent live with their parents. As many as 51.85 percent of respondents used heroin on a daily basis. * 28.40 percent of respondents have been using shabu-shabu for the last year. And 2.47 percent had been using heroin for more than 10 years. * 20.99 percent of respondent's started smoking cigarettes when they were between 6 and 10-years-old. Around 53.09 percent started drinking alcohol when they were between 11 and 15 and 40.74 percent started using illegal drugs between 16 and 20 years old. * 85.19 percent got their first drugs from friends. * 61.73 percent got their first drugs from "hangout places". * 49.38 percent of drug addicts are aged between 16 and 20 years old. * 87.65 percent had more than 16 friends who are drug addicts. * 86.42 percent have driven a car while under the influence of alcohol. * 65.41 percent used drugs for the first time out of curiosity. * 38.27 percent of respondents nearly always shared needles with others. * 85.19 know the danger of various drugs from the mass media and 67.90 percent from friends.
