AMUN 2026 trains students in critical thinking through UN General Assembly simulation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Al-Muhajirien Model United Nations (AMUN) 2026 trains students in critical thinking through simulations of United Nations (UN) General Assembly sessions. “AMUN provides a space for them to test and apply these abilities in a real global context,” said Mohammad Syafiudin, Chairman of the Waqaf Al-Muhajirien Jakapermai Foundation, in a statement from the organisers received in Jakarta on Sunday. AMUN 2026 was held on 11-12 April in Bekasi, West Java, and attended by around 200 delegates from 61 schools. During the event, delegates underwent a diplomacy process, from drafting national positions and presenting arguments to negotiating between delegates and formulating resolutions on various global issues. The event, attended by two main councils from UNESCO and WHO, discussed topics including digital space protection for students, balancing the preservation of traditional knowledge, and scientific validation in the global health system. Syafiudin stated that AMUN is part of a mentoring system to enhance students’ basic abilities in communication, critical thinking, discussion, and expressing and defending opinions. According to him, AMUN is designed to build students’ basic leadership skills. Abdul assessed that forums like Model United Nations provide space for students not only to understand theory but also to sharpen critical thinking, communication skills, and readiness to face global dynamics. “Programmes like this align with our efforts to build a resilient Indonesian generation that excels not only academically but also in critical thinking, good communication, and readiness to compete globally,” he said. “This is part of the steps towards the Golden Generation 2045, where education must produce future leaders,” he added.
