Amsal Sitepu stands and bows in thanks to DPR's Commission III
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Videographer who was once embroiled in a legal controversy and has now received an acquittal from the court, Amsal Christy Sitepu, stood and bowed to members of the DPR RI’s Commission III during a break in a meeting at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.
That action was carried out by Amsal to express thanks to the DPR RI’s Commission III.
“Today I am already free, sir, thank you very much, and especially to Mr Hinca Pandjaitan who represented Commission III as my guarantor and who also monitored this case,” said Amsal.
He claimed to have been freed after 131 days of detention at the Class I Medan Detention Centre in North Sumatra.
During the meeting, he conveyed several matters that he believed were irregularities in his legal process, starting from him being designated as a suspect because the Karo Regency Inspectorate stated there was state loss from the work he carried out.
However, he claimed he had never been examined by the inspectorate.
Then, he also claimed to have received intervention from a prosecutor named Wira Arizona, through the provision of a box of brownies while asking Amsal to simply follow the trial proceedings and not make a fuss on social media.
In addition, he received a report on the calculation of state losses, which stated that several types of his work were not recognised. That, he said, was painful for creative economy fighters like himself.
“Because when an idea is not recognised, this is not just a crime but an insult to a work of art. Editing is not recognised, this is an insult to a profession, dubbing is not recognised, cutting is not recognised,” he said.
On Thursday, the DPR RI’s Commission III held a meeting with the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, the Prosecutorial Commission, and Amsal Sitepu, to discuss the controversy of that case. Commission III of the DPR RI does not want similar cases like the one experienced by Amsal to occur.
