Amsal Sitepu Calls Acquittal a Form of Justice for Creative Workers
Medan (ANTARA) - The defendant Amsal Christy Sitepu stated that the acquittal handed down by the panel of judges at the Medan Corruption Court at the North Sumatra District Court represents justice not only for herself but also for creative workers. “The acquittal becomes an important momentum for creative industry actors to continue creating. This is a form of justice, not just for me, but for all creative workers,” Amsal said after the trial at the North Sumatra District Court on Wednesday. Amsal appreciated the panel of judges who examined and decided her case, as well as various parties who provided support during the legal process, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and DPR RI Commission III member Hinca Panjaitan. “Certainly, I thank the panel of judges who have decided my case. I also convey my highest appreciation to the Medan District Court. Today, justice has occurred here,” Amsal stated. In addition, she said she would return to activities as a creative economy actor, particularly in the field of videography, after the decision. “I will return to creating and continue activities in the creative world,” she said. Previously, the panel of judges chaired by Yusafrihardi Girsang in the verdict stated that the defendant Amsal Sitepu was not proven legally and convincingly to have committed the criminal act of corruption in the village profile video production project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra. “Imposing an acquittal on the defendant because it is not proven that the criminal act of corruption was committed,” said Yusafrihardi. The panel of judges in the verdict opined that the actions of the defendant Amsal Sitepu were not proven, as per the charges from the Karo District Prosecutor’s Public Prosecutor both the primary and subsidiary charges. “Restoring the defendant’s rights, and rehabilitating the honour, dignity, and good name of the defendant Amsal Sitepu,” Yusafrihardi said.
