Amsal Sitepu Attends DPR Hearing After Acquittal Verdict: I Am Very Happy
Videographer who was the defendant in the alleged fund inflation case for the village profile series project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra, Amsal Sitepu, attended an audience meeting in Commission III of the DPR on Thursday (2/4). Amsal attended the meeting in person for the follow-up on the case together with the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) and the Prosecutors’ Commission (Komjak). He admitted to being pleased with the decision of the Medan District Court panel of judges who acquitted him. He also thanked all parties who supported him in escaping the prosecutor’s snare. “Wow, very happy, can’t speak anymore, so very happy, thank you to friends for the support, keep supporting me, let’s monitor it until everything is finished, okay,” said Amsal ahead of the meeting. Commission III Chair of the DPR, Habiburokhman, previously stated that his side would request explanations from the Karo Kejari and prosecutors in the case. Habib sensed suspicions of resistance by the Kejari against the judge’s decision. “This meeting is held to request explanations in the Amsal Sitorus case starting from the reasons for designating a suspect, alleged intimidation, to building misleading public opinion related to the suspension of detention,” added the Gerindra Party politician. In the case, on Wednesday (1/4), the panel of judges at the Medan District Court had issued an acquittal verdict against Amsal. The panel of judges assessed that all charges and demands by the prosecutor against Amsal were not proven in the trial. The judge firmly acquitted the defendant from all charges. In addition, the judge also ordered the restoration of the defendant’s rights, including his honour and dignity.
