Amsal Sitepu Acquitted, DPR Member Calls for Sanctions on Prosecutors: Do Not Force a Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A member of the House of Representatives Commission III from the NasDem faction, Rudianto Lallo, has called on the prosecutor’s office not to seek out faults or force cases in the future, but instead to focus solely on the quality of the cases.
Rudianto views the acquittal verdict for videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu in the corruption case over the production of village profile videos as a severe blow to the prosecutors, as their legal charges were rejected by the judge.
“They must still be given some form of punishment, because their indictment has been proven to have failed, failed to prove it in court. I think colleagues in the Prosecutor’s Office should, in investigating corruption crimes, no longer appear to be seeking out faults. It is not justified to seek out faults. Do not fabricate cases, do not force them, do not rush them,” Rudianto said at the DPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
According to him, even in Amsal’s trial, the proof presented by the prosecutors was notably weak.
“Do not then easily criminalise, easily convict. Especially since this is a creative economy actor whom the government currently needs to maintain the creativity of our young people in conveying ideas and concepts, yes,” he stated.
“Moreover, this is funding collected per village with a very small value. Do not let the costs of the case, starting from investigation, inquiry, prosecution, trial, trial defence, be greater than the amount of loss found,” Rudianto added.
He does not want law enforcement officials to appear blunt towards the top and sharp towards the bottom.
“We want law enforcement where the purpose of law enforcement is, one of which, to be beneficial. There is benefit to be gained. If there is no benefit, no recovery of state losses, no return of state losses, then what for?” Rudianto further remarked.
Previously, the panel of judges at the Medan District Court issued an acquittal verdict for the defendant in the alleged corruption case of producing village profile videos in Karo Regency, Amsal Christy Sitepu, on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
Presiding Judge Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang stated that Amsal Sitepu was not proven guilty legally and convincingly of committing the criminal act as charged in the primary and subsidiary indictments.
“Acquitting the defendant from all charges by the public prosecutor. Restoring the defendant’s rights in his capacity, position, dignity, and honour,” said Judge Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
During the 2020 to 2022 budget period, Amsal offered video production services for village profiles to several village governments in Karo Regency.
