Amsal Claims He Was Intimidated by Prosecutor in Detention Centre, Sent Brownies Containing Threatening Note
Videographer from Karo Regency, Amsal Christy Sitepu, claims he was intimidated by a prosecutor while undergoing legal proceedings. Amsal is accused of inflating the budget for producing videos for 20 villages in Karo.
Prosecutors and auditors assessed that Amsal inflated the budget for several of his services, such as ideas, editing, and others.
Amsal claims he was given a box of brownies containing a message advising him not to publicise too much content on social media.
“In the legal process I am currently undergoing, I have experienced intimidation directly from the prosecutor who gave me a box of chocolate brownies, with the message, he spoke directly to me in this detention centre, ‘just follow the flow. Don’t make a fuss, close those contents,’” Amsal said during a closed meeting with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday, 30 March 2026.
However, Amsal rejected the prosecutor’s ‘dirty’ actions. He hopes that no more young people in Indonesia will face intimidation or criminalisation.
“Let me be the only creative economy worker who is criminalised and intimidated. Let me be the last leader. I must convey this. This is the voice of all of us young people who dare to keep speaking out despite facing pressure,” he emphasised.
The prosecutor’s intimidation was also included in Amsal’s plea or defence note during the trial.
“I also raised that intimidation through the giving of chocolate brownies in my plea. I think that the law in this world must be upheld, especially for us creative economy workers,” he concluded.
Amsal also emphasised that he will continue to fight the injustice by law enforcement officials against him. Amsal claims he is not afraid because he believes he is innocent.
“This is the voice of all of us young people who dare to keep speaking out despite facing pressure. I said no, I will keep fighting. Even though I know many people say you will be buried, if you fight you will be buried. But I say I’m not afraid, I’m not guilty,” he added.
