Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman stated that efforts to downstream palm oil commodities domestically have successfully boosted exports of crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivatives. From US$3.71 billion in January-February 2025, the figure rose to US$4.69 billion in January-February 2026. “If we process our CPO into margarine, cosmetics, and other derivative products, the world will become highly dependent on Indonesia,” Amran said in his statement on Thursday, 2 April 2026. He conveyed that his ministry will continue to strengthen the production, processing, and marketing ecosystem for palm oil commodities to increase added value and bolster the national economy based on the agricultural sector. “We control more than 60% of the world market. This means Indonesia is highly influential. And we must continue to push for its downstreaming,” he added. It is known that previously, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, announced in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, that CPO exports for that period amounted to US$4.69 billion. This figure marked a significant cumulative increase of 26.40% compared to the same period the previous year, which was recorded at US$3.71 billion. In terms of volume, exports of CPO and its derivatives also experienced a substantial rise. From 3.33 million tonnes in January-February 2025 to 4.54 million tonnes in the same period in 2026. The increase in CPO and derivative exports also contributed to the performance of Indonesia’s non-oil and gas exports, which overall recorded positive growth. “Non-oil and gas exports rose by 2.82% (year on year) with a value of US$42.35 billion,” he stated.
