Amran Hails Prabowo as Arab Conflict Erupts, 20% Fertilizer Discount to Continue
Jakarta — Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman confirmed that the 20% subsidised fertiliser price discount for farmers would continue even as global geopolitical tensions rise. “Berlanjut. Berlanjut. Itulah hebatnya presiden (Prabowo Subianto) kita,” Amran said at a press conference in the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) office in Jakarta, on Friday (6/3/2026).
He acknowledged that geopolitical events such as wars and the closure of international trade routes, such as the Hormuz Strait, could affect fertiliser feedstock supplies. However, the government has prepared alternative supply sources from several countries. “Kira-kira, apa yang menyulitkan kita? (dengan adanya perang hingga penutupan Selat Hormuz) Palingan sulit di bahan baku, pupuk. Tetapi, alternatifnya kita ambil dari Rusia, Laos, Australia. Kami sudah perhitungan semua,” he said.
Previously, the government took a big step by cutting subsidised fertiliser prices by 20% for the first time in Indonesia’s history. The policy is a direct instruction from President Prabowo Subianto as part of revitalising the national fertiliser sector.
The price cut applies to Urea and NPK, which are essential for farmers. The price of Urea was reduced from Rp2,250 per kilogram to Rp1,800 per kilogram, while NPK prices fell from Rp2,300 per kilogram to Rp1,840 per kilogram.
The government believes the policy will reduce farmers’ production costs while encouraging higher national food production. In addition, the move is expected to improve the Nilai Tukar Petani (NTP) and farmers’ welfare.
