Amran Announces Indonesia's Rice Stock Sufficient for 11 Months, Total Amount as Follows
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has emphasised that Indonesia’s rice stock is secure for the next 11 months. The Government’s Rice Reserve (CBP) is also expected to return to its highest level in history, namely 5 million tonnes, this month.
“First, alhamdulillah, our stock (CBP) is 4.6 million tonnes today. In April, insya allah, it can reach 5 million tonnes, the highest in history. Previously, in April, it was only 1.5 million tonnes, maximum 2 million tonnes, meaning three times more—this is something we should be grateful for,” said Amran at the Presidential Palace Complex on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
Amran is also unconcerned about the El Nino Godzilla weather phenomenon. According to him, the dry season predicted to last up to six months ahead will not yet disrupt rice supply conditions.
Thus, according to him, with a total of 28 million tonnes of rice in circulation, Indonesia’s main food supply is secure for the next 11 months. Furthermore, according to Amran, from previous experiences of long dry seasons, rice consumption in Indonesia reaches 12 million tonnes.
“Our stock is 5 million tonnes this month (CBP), then (rice stock) in the Horeka sector (Hotels, Restaurants, Cafes), homes, and restaurants, that’s 12.5 million tonnes. The current standing crop ready for harvest is 11 million tonnes. So total 28 million tonnes,” said Amran.
“That 28 million tonnes is enough for 10.7 to 11 months ahead,” he explained.
