AMPG Appreciates Government's Swift Response in Evaluating Railway System
The presence of the President at the location of the victims demonstrates empathy and the seriousness of the state in handling this crisis. Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Board of the Young Generation of the Golkar Party (AMPG) appreciates the government’s swift actions, including the direct presence of President Prabowo Subianto who inspected the victims of the train accident at Bekasi City Hospital and instructions to conduct a comprehensive investigation. “We see the government’s response as very quick and appropriate. The President’s presence at the victims’ location shows empathy and the state’s seriousness in handling this crisis,” said the General Chairman of the AMPG Central Board, Said Aldi Al Idrus, in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday. Nevertheless, the AMPG Central Board emphasises that the tragedy should not stop at emergency handling alone. The AMPG Central Board assesses that a systemic evaluation of national railway transportation safety is needed. Based on initial information, the accident is suspected to have been triggered by a chain of consecutive events (domino effect), starting from an incident involving a vehicle disrupting the track at a level crossing, to alleged negligence in the signalling and operational system of the train. This indicates more complex and structural problems. The AMPG Central Board also fully supports the investigation steps carried out by the National Committee for Transportation Safety (KNKT) and urges that the results be conveyed transparently to the public. In addition, the AMPG Central Board considers it important to accelerate the construction of supporting infrastructure for safety, such as flyovers and underpasses at high-risk points, as stated by the government. “Investment in transportation safety is not an option, but a necessity. Especially with the many unguarded level crossings still existing, particularly in dense areas like Bekasi and surroundings,” he said. “We must not wait for the next tragedy to act. The evaluation must be comprehensive, quick, and ongoing,” said Said. The AMPG Central Board also conveyed condolences for the train accident tragedy that occurred at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/04), which resulted in at least 16 people dead and dozens others injured. “On behalf of the big family of the AMPG Central Board, we extend our deepest condolences to all victims and the families left behind. This is a humanitarian tragedy that touches us all,” he stated.
