Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) has not yet released the exact amount of scholarship funds and interest that must be repaid by Arya Iwantoro, husband of Dwi Sasetyaningtyas. The repayment is required after Arya was found to have failed to complete his mandatory service contribution following completion of his studies in the Netherlands.

LPDP Director Sudarto explained that the agency is calculating the total funds to be repaid based on the scholarship received by Arya Iwantoro for Master’s studies that ended in 2017 and continued with PhD studies through 2022.

“If he is to repay, I have asked for a calculation. Why? For instance, as mentioned, we have data. We have calculations covering the period from 2015-2016, and then he continued from 2017 to 2021,” Sudarto stated in a media briefing on Thursday (26 February 2026).

Although the exact amount remains unknown, LPDP stated that the average repayment value for scholarship recipients in Master’s programmes ranges from Rp 900 million to Rp 2 billion, depending on the university and destination country.

To date, Sudarto disclosed that four alumni have repaid scholarship funds after being found to have failed to fulfil their obligation to serve in Indonesia.

Each of these alumni repaid approximately Rp 2 billion in funds comprising recipients of scholarships for Master’s and PhD education both domestically and internationally.

“So roughly around Rp 2 billion per person for PhD programmes, and for Master’s programmes below Rp 1-2 billion. Yes, those who have already paid include those who studied domestically and those who studied abroad,” Sudarto said.

As is known, LPDP previously investigated 600 award recipients suspected of violations. Based on investigations, 307 awardees obtained permission to pursue internships or further studies, while 172 individuals are employed in accordance with LPDP regulations, and 36 others remain under review.

Meanwhile, eight individuals were found to have failed to fulfil their obligation to serve in Indonesia.

“Currently we are reviewing 36 individuals, including those cases that went viral. This is certainly a momentum for us to reach conclusions regarding both accuracy and our systems, as well as contribution criteria,” he said.
