Amon Djobo Passes Away, NTT Deputy Governor Remembers a Firm and People-Oriented Figure
Former Alor Regent for two terms (2014-2024) Amon Djobo passed away on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at Kalabahi General Hospital in Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The departure of the late figure has left deep sorrow for many parties, including NTT Deputy Governor Johni Asadoma. He described Amon Djobo as a leader who was firm yet people-oriented.
“I will go to Alor tomorrow to pay my respects. The late was a leader with a strong personality, firm but approachable,” said Johni on Friday (27/3/2026).
According to Johni, Amon Djobo was a leader proud of his identity as a figure who rose from below to serve as Alor Regent for two terms.
“He (the late) was very proud of his identity as an Alor leader who grew from the grassroots. The late was an egalitarian and able to maintain the unity of Alor’s pluralistic society,” he explained.
He also extended condolences to the family and the people of Alor Regency over Amon Djobo’s passing.
“May his soul be accepted by the Almighty God, and may the family left behind be given strength and hope,” he concluded.
During his tenure, Johni assessed that the late maintained his dignity and commitment as a leader. Amon Djobo was also known as a consistent figure since his youth, starting his career as a bureaucrat before entering the world of politics.
“He was firm and approachable. Since his youth, he was a pure bureaucrat before entering the world of national politics,” he said.
PAN Loses Its Best Cadre
In addition to being known as a true bureaucrat, Amon Djobo was also one of the best cadres of the National Mandate Party (PAN).
NTT PAN DPW Secretary Marthen Lenggu said they received the sad news on Thursday afternoon from the Alor DPD PAN and felt deeply shocked.
According to him, Amon Djobo was the best cadre in Alor Regency who had proven himself by serving as regent for two terms.
“On behalf of the NTT National Mandate Party DPW, we express our deepest condolences; we have lost our best cadre,” said Marthen.
Marthen described Amon Djobo as a productive PAN cadre. In the 2024 Legislative Election, the late ranked second for PAN in electoral district VI of the NTT DPRD, just behind his PAN colleague Syaiful Sengaji.
That vote tally, according to Marthen, showed that Amon Djobo still had a strong support base. He was also credited with expanding PAN’s presence in Alor Regency.
Marthen hoped the bereaved family would be given strength to face this grief.
“He was a prominent figure in Alor, one of the regents who made many breakthroughs in Alor,” he said.
According to him, Amon Djobo had various achievements in developing Alor.
“Everyone left behind should appreciate Alor and it should serve as inspiration for the next generation,” he concluded.
He added that all PAN NTT cadres shared in this loss.
“The news of Amon Djobo’s passing has also been reported to the DPP PAN. Specifically, Alor PAN has been instructed to assist with the funeral arrangements until completion,” he said.
“He was a good person, a firm person who cared deeply for the region, and he contributed much to PAN,” he continued.
Background and Controversies
Amon Djobo passed away at the age of 66. He was the 14th Regent of Alor.
During his tenure, Amon Djobo once drew public attention. In June 2021, he went viral after raging at Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini regarding the distribution of social assistance under the Family Hope Program (PKH) for victims of the Seroja disaster.
The anger was triggered because the aid was distributed through the DPRD, not the Alor Regional Government. At that time, Amon Djobo felt the local government was not respected because the aid was handed over through Alor DPRD members, whom he viewed as laden with political interests.
As a result of the incident, PDIP, which had supported him at the time, withdrew its support for Amon Djobo as Alor Regent.
Previously, Amon Djobo had also been reported to the police for alleged insults and threats against the Kasilog official of Korem 161/Wira Sakti, Colonel Cpl Imanuel Yoram Dionisius Adoe.
