Ammunition Depot Explosion Kills One Soldier, Indonesian Army Forms Investigation Team

Head of the Indonesian Army Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono stated that the incident occurred while personnel were carrying out inspection and maintenance of ammunition materiel in one of the storage warehouses. “The Indonesian Army extends its deepest condolences for the work accident incident that occurred at Gupusmu II Puspalad. We convey our sympathies to the family of the soldier who fell in the line of duty and pray that all victims currently undergoing treatment will recover swiftly and be restored to full health,” Donny said in a statement received on Thursday. Donny said that based on initial reports, the incident happened during inspection and maintenance activities. In the incident, one person died, four suffered serious injuries, and two others sustained minor injuries. Donny stated the Army has taken initial steps by providing full attention and assistance to the victims and their families, and coordinating with the hospital. The Army has also formed an investigation team regarding the ammunition depot explosion on Jalan Raya Madiun-Surabaya, Saradan District, Madiun Regency, East Java. “The Indonesian Army has taken initial handling steps by giving full attention and assistance to the victims and their families, coordinating with the hospital, and forming a team to conduct a thorough and in-depth investigation to uncover the chronology and cause of the incident,” said Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono. The investigation team will carry out a comprehensive and professional examination. We also invite all parties to give the investigation team space to work optimally and to avoid speculation about the cause of the incident before the entire examination process is complete,” he said. Furthermore, Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono emphasised that the Indonesian Army is committed to handling this incident seriously, transparently, and accountably. He also ensured that all victims receive the best possible care. He revealed that the results of the investigation will later serve as evaluation material to further strengthen the implementation of occupational safety standards in all materiel management activities within the Indonesian Army.
