An indictment hearing in the narcotics sale case at Salemba Detention Centre, involving defendant Muhammad Amar Akbar alias Ammar Zoni and others, will move to the stage of reading of the charges. The indictment hearing for Ammar Zoni and the co-accused will be held next week.

‘Ammar’s indictment hearing on Thursday, 13 March 2026, at 10:00 a.m. is the agenda for the reading of the charges by the State Prosecutor’s Office (JPU),’ Ammar Zoni’s defence counsel, Jon Mathias, said when contacted on Wednesday (4 March 2026).

Jon hopes for an acquittal for Ammar. He says all defences prepared during the trial and the search conducted against Ammar were procedurally defective.

‘It can be proven that the defendant was not accompanied by a legal adviser at the time of the BAP by investigators, and issues of search were procedurally flawed, as well as seizure and other matters,’ Jon added.

‘The witnesses presented by the JPU are said to lack evidential value.’

Indictment against Ammar Zoni

Previously, Ammar Zoni faced charges of selling narcotics (methamphetamine) inside Salemba Detention Centre, Central Jakarta. He allegedly received methamphetamine from a person named Andre, which was then sold and distributed within the detention centre.

Zoni was charged together with five other defendants: Defendant I Asep bin Sarikin, Defendant II Ardian Prasetyo bin Arie Ardih, Defendant III Andi Muallim alias Koh Andi, Defendant IV Ade Candra Maulana bin Mursalih, and Defendant V Muhammad Rivaldi.

‘The offences involve attempting or conspiring to commit unlawful acts, without lawful authority or against the law, offering for sale, selling, buying, receiving, acting as an intermediary in the sale of, exchanging, or delivering narcotics classified as Schedule I in a non-plant form, with a weight exceeding five grams; these acts were carried out by the defendants,’ the prosecutor said.

The drug trafficking is alleged to have occurred since 31 December 2024.
