Amman's 900,000-tonne smelter project ready to support downstreaming

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMAN) has reported that its copper smelter, a National Strategic Project (PSN) designed to process up to 900,000 metric tonnes of concentrate per year, has been completed and is ready to support the national downstreaming programme.

“The completion of this smelter project is a significant achievement for Amman. Behind it lies the hard work, resilience and strong collaboration of all our employees and partners in facing various challenges during the construction and commissioning process,” said Amman’s President Director, Arief Sidarto, in an official statement confirmed by Antara in Jakarta on Saturday.

The project’s completion was formalised through the signing of a Completion and Project Acceptance Certificate (PAC) between Amman and its strategic partner, China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC), at NFC’s headquarters in Beijing, China.

The signing of the PAC marks the completion of all construction work and the resolution of punch list items related to commissioning that form part of the contract scope.

Although the Amman copper smelter has been operating for more than a year, he said, this important milestone confirms that the smelter has successfully passed all performance guarantee tests required under the contract and has officially entered the long-term operational phase.

Going forward, he continued, Amman hopes that the policy ecosystem supporting the competitiveness of domestic processing and mining industries can continue to be strengthened so that Indonesia can maximise the benefits of downstreaming and remain competitive amid global dynamics.

As a National Strategic Project (PSN), the Amman copper smelter is designed to process up to 900,000 metric tonnes of concentrate per year sourced from the Batu Hijau mine and, in the future, the Elang mine.

This integrated complex will produce high-quality copper cathodes, gold, silver, sulphuric acid and selenium, which are essential materials for various sectors supporting economic growth and the global energy transition.
