Amman Mineral's Copper Smelter Fully Operational Since June 2026

PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) has disclosed that its copper smelter facility on Sumbawa Island has been in production and fully operational since June 2026. The smelter is now capable of handling the entire operational output from the company’s current mining operations. President Director of AMNT Rachmat Makkasau explained that the production ramp-up process has proceeded according to target after passing a maintenance phase. “At this time, I can report that around April 2026, operations had begun and the ramp-up was proceeding well, so that by around June 2026 we were able to process all the concentrate produced by the mine at present,” he stated during a Hearing Meeting with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday. The smelter, which utilises double flash technology, is designed with a concentrate input capacity of 900,000 tonnes per year. The facility is projected to produce an annual output of 220,000 tonnes of copper cathode, 18 tonnes of gold, 55 tonnes of silver, and 77 tonnes of selenium. “So the capacity is indeed 900,000 tonnes. Within a few weeks of operation, maximum or near-maximum capacity was already achieved, so we are confident that all the concentrate produced by mining operations this year can be absorbed,” Rachmat said. Full operations were achieved after the company carried out repairs following commissioning issues in 2025. The production target had previously been hampered by disruptions in the smelting furnace area and a leak in the acid cooling system. By the end of 2026, AMNT is targeting the production of 162,000 tonnes of copper cathode, 16 tonnes of gold, and 45 tonnes of silver. The company also plans to begin producing 1.96 tonnes of tellurium, with by-product sulphuric acid expected to reach 572,000 tonnes this year. “Currently, the main priority for all products is domestic sales, almost all are maximised for the domestic market. However, looking at developments when all production is at maximum, we may need to export, especially copper cathode,” he concluded.
