President Director of AMMAN Arief Sidarto stated that the project is the result of collaboration with various parties to build the world’s most advanced integrated copper smelting and precious metal refining complex. “The operation of this smelter underscores our commitment to supporting the national downstreaming agenda,” he said in a written statement on Friday, 24 July 2026. The completion was marked by the signing of a Completion and Project Acceptance Certificate (PAC) between AMMAN and China Nonferrous Metal Industry’s Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC) at NFC’s headquarters in Beijing, China, on 18 July 2026. The signing also confirmed the completion of all construction work and punch list items related to commissioning, which were part of the contract scope. Although the copper smelter has been operating for over a year, this achievement proves it has successfully met all performance guarantee tests as required by the contract and has officially entered the long-term operational phase. “Going forward, we hope for a policy ecosystem that supports the competitiveness of the domestic processing and mining industry,” Arief said. The facility, designated a National Strategic Project (PSN), is designed to process up to 900,000 metric tonnes of concentrate per year sourced from the Batu Hijau mine and subsequently from the Elang mine. The complex will produce high-quality copper cathodes, gold, silver, sulphuric acid, and selenium. These mineral products are intended to meet the needs of renewable energy, including electric vehicles and digital technology, contributing to the world’s increasing demand for critical minerals. Arief claimed the facility is designed to achieve optimal metal recovery rates, energy efficiency, and strong operational reliability, alongside sustainable and responsible resource management.
