Amiruddin Al Rahab has been officially appointed as an interim member of the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) for the 2022-2027 period, replacing former member Hari Kurniawan.

‘The replacement is set out in Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24/P of 2026 on the Formalisation of Interim Appointment of Komnas HAM Members dated 2 March 2026,’ Komnas HAM Chair Anis Hidayah said in an official statement in Jakarta.

Anis explained that, under Article 83(1) of Law Number 39 of 1999 on Human Rights, Komnas HAM members are selected by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) based on proposals from Komnas HAM and are formalised by the President as head of state.

‘The interim replacement of a member is expected to strengthen the Commission’s work in promoting and enforcing human rights,’ she added.

Amiruddin Al Rahab previously served as a Komnas HAM member from 2017 to 2022.

Meanwhile Hari Kurniawan resigned from Komnas HAM in 2025 in line with an internal rotation of positions within the commission.

It is noted that in May last year Komnas HAM held a plenary session to elect leaders and sub-commissions for the 2.5-year term of the second half of the 2022-2027 period.

The rotation was enacted as an implementation of Article 22(3) and (4) of Komnas HAM Regulation Number 2 of 2019 on the Rules of Procedure of Komnas HAM.

Referencing the relevant article, the terms of office for the chair and deputy chair of Komnas HAM is two years and six months, after which they may be re-elected through a plenary session.
