Amien to brief new legislators

JAKARTA: Amien Rais, leader of the National Mandate Party (PAN), is expected to brief 53 PAN members elected to the House of Representatives by the end of this month.

He is also scheduled to officiate a ceremony to mark the party's 5th anniversary on Aug. 23.

Amien, who ranked fourth in the July presidential election, said on Thursday his party would discuss possible coalitions after completing those tasks.

He has already met with Megawati Soekarnoputri and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the two candidates contesting the runoff on Sept. 20.

Currently, PAN has 34 seats in the House. --JP
