Amien Rais Responds to Komdigi Minister's Accusation of Slander Regarding His Statement on Teddy
Amien Rais has spoken out regarding the response from the Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid, who labelled his statements about the close relationship between President Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya as slander. Amien stated that his opinion is perfectly valid because Indonesia is a democratic country.
“Yes, so that’s how it is. First, I am certainly convinced that democracy runs well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our constitution is not restricted or suppressed,” Amien said when met after the National Congress of the Ummat Party in Sleman on Saturday night (2/5/2026).
“Well, then, in a democratic country, people are allowed to have opinions. Even if they contradict the official authorities or other groups of the people. But what is it, the point of conflict, the point of difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,” he continued.
Amien also stated that if this matter proceeds to court, he is prepared to face the legal process and requests that the proof be conducted openly.
“I have been informed by legal experts that Komdigi has no authority. So the one with authority is Teddy himself, and that would then be brought to court. And in court, I am very sure, show it! I request several specialist doctors to determine whether he is gay or not. That’s it, then we can talk again,” he emphasised.
Menkomdigi Calls Amien Rais’s Statement Slander
It is known that Amien Rais made a statement on his YouTube channel questioning the closeness between Prabowo and Teddy. The video was titled “KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS” and lasted about 8 minutes. However, by 12:18 WIB, the video was no longer available.
Previously, Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid spoke about the video uploaded by Amien Rais on his YouTube channel regarding the closeness between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Meutya described the video as character assassination.
“The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has identified the dissemination of a video containing narratives of slander, character assassination, and personal attacks directed at the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The video was uploaded by the Chairman of the Shura Council of the Ummat Party,” Meutya said in an Instagram post @kemkomdigi on Saturday (2/5/2026), quoted from detikNews.
Meutya stated that Amien Rais’s remarks contain hate speech. She assessed that his statements have the potential to divide the nation.
“Komdigi emphasises that the content of the video is hoaxes, slander, and contains hate speech. The narrative constructed is an attempt to demean the dignity of the Supreme Leader of the State, lacks factual basis, and is part of a provocation to create public unrest. This has the potential to divide the nation,” she said.
Meutya stated that Komdigi will take steps in accordance with applicable laws. Anyone who creates, participates in distributing, and/or transmitting the video knowingly, she said, has committed a legal violation as regulated in Law No. 1 of 2024 on Electronic Information and Transactions, Article 27A and Article 28 (2).
