Amien Rais Responds to Komdigi Claiming His Video on Prabowo and Teddy is Slander
“Yes, so that’s how it is. I am first of all certain that democracy runs well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our constitution is not restricted or suppressed,” said Amien when met after the National Congress of the Ummah Party in Sleman, as reported by detikjogja on Sunday (3/5/2026). According to him, Indonesia is a democratic country, so every individual is free to express their opinions. Even if, Amien Rais said, they contradict the authorities and other groups of the people. “Well, then, in a democratic country, people are allowed to express opinions. Contradicting the official authorities, contradicting other groups of the people and so on. But what is it, the point of conflict, the point of difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,” he stated. Amien is prepared to face legal proceedings if this matter proceeds to court. He requests that proof be conducted openly. “I was informed by legal experts that Komdigi has no authority. So the one with authority is Teddy, well, that will then be brought to court. And in court, I am very certain, show it! I ask for several specialist doctors whether he is gay or not. Well, that’s it, then we’ll chat again,” he asserted. Amien Rais made a statement on his YouTube channel questioning the closeness of Prabowo and Teddy. The video was titled “KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS” and lasted about 8 minutes. However, by 12:18 WIB, the video was no longer available. Previously, Meutya described the video as character assassination. Meutya said Amien Rais’s statement contained hate speech and had the potential to divide the nation. “The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) has identified the spread of a video containing slanderous narratives, character assassination, and personal attacks directed at the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The video was uploaded by the Chairman of the Shura Council of the Ummah Party,” said Meutya in an Instagram post @kemkomdigi on Saturday (2/5/2026). “Komdigi emphasises that the content of the video is hoaxes, slander, and contains hate speech. The narrative built is an attempt to demean the dignity of the Supreme Leader of the State, lacks factual basis, and is part of a provocation to create public unrest. This has the potential to divide the nation,” she said. Meutya stated that Komdigi will take steps in accordance with applicable laws. Anyone who creates and participates in distributing and/or transmitting the video knowingly, she said, has committed a legal violation as regulated in the ITE Law Number 1 of 2024 Article 27A and Article 28 (2).
