Amien Rais Once Again Alludes to Cabinet Secretary Teddy: There's Something Very Unusual
Controversial statements by Amien Rais regarding the close relationship between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya have gone viral recently. Amien has once again alluded to Teddy, stating that there is something unusual about him.
Amien responded to his controversial remarks. According to him, Indonesia is a democratic country, so freedom of opinion should not be restricted.
He even launched another scathing comment about Teddy. He mentioned that there is something unusual because he has been given too much power in the government.
“Well, regarding Teddy, I have gathered information from various sources, from YouTube, print media, and various social media channels. I am almost convinced that there is something very unusual about our brother Teddy. There is something that should not be given too much power allocation,” said Amien when met after the National Congress of the Ummat Party in Sleman on Saturday night (2/5/2026).
He mentioned that he had a good relationship with President Prabowo previously. He also touched on democracy regarding his opinion that was deemed to cause a stir.
“I have known Mr Prabowo for 10 years. I often stayed in Hambalang, I often stayed in Kertanegara, until late at night I would go home, and so on, having coffee together. So, as for Mr Prabowo, in my opinion, back then, there wasn’t a single thread indicating that he was like Teddy Indra Wijaya,” he emphasised.
He considers his opinion to be part of democracy and guaranteed by law.
“Yes, so that’s how it is with me. First, I am certainly convinced that democracy runs well if the freedom to express opinions guaranteed by our constitution is not restricted or suppressed,” said Amien.
“Well, then, in a democratic country, people are allowed to have opinions. Contradicting the official ruler, contradicting other groups of people, and so on. But what is the point of conflict, the point of difference, is that it concerns the fate of the nation,” he continued.
It is known that Amien Rais made a statement on his YouTube channel questioning the closeness between Prabowo and Teddy. The video was titled “KEEP THE PALACE AWAY FROM MORAL SCANDALS” and lasted about 8 minutes. However, as of 12:18 WIB, the video was no longer available.
Previously, Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid spoke about the video uploaded by Amien Rais on his YouTube channel regarding the closeness between President Prabowo Subianto and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Meutya called the video character assassination.
“The Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi) has identified the spread of a video containing slanderous narratives, character assassination, and personal attacks directed at the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The video was uploaded by the Chairman of the Shura Council of the Ummat Party,” said Meutya in an Instagram post @kemkomdigi on Saturday (2/5/2026), quoted from detikNews.
Meutya stated that Amien Rais’s statement contained hate speech. She assessed that his remarks could potentially divide the nation.
“Komdigi emphasises that the content of the video is hoaxes, slander, and contains hate speech. The narrative built is an attempt to demean the dignity of the Supreme Leader of the State, lacks factual basis, and is part of an effort to provoke public unrest. This has the potential to divide the nation,” she said.
