Chairman of the Ummat Party’s Shura Council, Amien Rais, spotlighted various national problems during the opening of the 2026 National Congress (Munas) of the Ummat Party in Mlati Subdistrict, Sleman. From the shrinking middle class to the strong influence of oligarchs, these became important notes he conveyed in front of party cadres.

In his political sermon, Amien revealed the condition of Indonesia’s middle class, which has experienced a decline in recent years. He stated that the number of middle-class individuals in 2024 stood at 47.85 million people, down from 57.33 million in 2019.

“This certainly becomes an important agenda for Mr Prabowo’s government,” said Amien on Saturday (2/5/2026).

In addition, Amien also touched on the power of oligarchs, which he assessed as still dominating various strategic sectors in Indonesia. He even stated that the true rulers are not entirely in the hands of the nation itself.

“Those who truly hold power are oligarchs from within and outside the country,” he emphasised.

According to him, large capitalists have the strength to influence political parties with massive funding injections. He cited that to control a party, funds of up to Rp 1 trillion to Rp 4 trillion are required.

“Parties that are bribed then become mouthpieces for the capital owners,” he said.

Nevertheless, Amien emphasised that the Ummat Party would not be tempted by such financial power. He stated that his party is committed to fighting immorality and upholding justice.

On that occasion, Amien also invited cadres to remain optimistic in facing Indonesia’s future towards 2045. He assessed that this nation still has the opportunity to become an advanced country, despite facing various challenges.

“Can this nation become an advanced country by 2045, producing quality generations free from stunting and digitally intelligent?” he said.

At the end of his statement, Amien expressed hopes to President Prabowo Subianto that he would be able to lead Indonesia to become a truly sovereign country that sides with the people.

“May President Prabowo be able to bring Indonesia that is truly independent and sovereign,” he concluded.
