Amien dealt blow by wandering ally

SURAKARTA, Central Java: Presidential candidate Amien Rais expressed disappointment on Tuesday that Fuad Bawazier, a longtime ally, had apparently jumped ship to back Wiranto in the presidential election.

"Some friends are working for the campaigns of other presidential candidates, but it is their right to do so," said Amien, apparently referring to Bawazier, who is a member of Amien's National Mandate Party (PAN).

Amien said if the report was true, he would consider recalling Bawazier from his current position as a legislator representing PAN from the Cilacap electoral district. -- JP
