REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Lately, not a day goes by without discussions about mental health on social media. From overthinking, burnout, and anxiety to trauma and newly emerging terms appearing on timelines, everyone seems to have suddenly become a ‘mental health expert’. There are those who claim trauma after a breakup lasting only a week, those who feel burnout after being asked to work overtime for a day, and even those who conclude they have a psychological disorder after being scolded by a lecturer. But the question is, amidst this flood of psychological terms circulating daily, do we truly understand the science behind them? This is where Psychology comes in, not as a social media trend, but as a scientific discipline that studies behaviour, emotions, personality, and the way humans think and make decisions. Interestingly, many people recognise Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) as a Digital Creative Campus synonymous with technology, computers, and the digital world. However, few are aware that UBSI also has a Psychology Study Programme under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The UBSI Psychology Study Programme exists to meet the community’s growing awareness of mental health, human resource development, and the increasingly complex understanding of human behaviour in the digital era. UBSI Rector Mochamad Wahyudi stated that the changing times have led to an increasing demand for Psychology graduates across various sectors. ‘Psychology is a field of study that is highly relevant to current needs. It is not only related to mental health but also to education, the workplace, human resource development, and various aspects of social life. Therefore, the Psychology Study Programme is here to prepare graduates who are able to understand humans comprehensively and professionally,’ Wahyudi said. According to him, studying Psychology is not just about theories of emotion or human behaviour. Students will also study various scientific fields such as developmental psychology, social psychology, industrial and organisational psychology, educational psychology, and research methods used to understand various psychological phenomena scientifically. ‘Many people think Psychology is only about counselling or reading someone’s character. In fact, the scope of the science is much broader. Students will learn how humans think, interact, make decisions, and understand the factors that influence individual and group behaviour,’ he said. In an era where companies compete to find the best talent, schools require proper student mentoring, and the public is increasingly concerned about mental health, Psychology graduates have expanding career opportunities. They can pursue careers in Human Resource Development (HRD), employee recruitment and selection, education, research, human resource development consulting, social services, and various other professions related to human development. In short, if technology majors study how systems and machines work, Psychology studies the most complex ‘operating system’ in the world: the human being itself. And honestly, understanding algorithms might be difficult. But understanding what goes on inside a person’s head? Sometimes, it is far more complicated. For prospective students interested in studying human behaviour, mental health, human resource development, and various social phenomena occurring in society, the UBSI Psychology Study Programme could be a worthy option to consider. Complete information regarding the Psychology Study Programme and New Student Admissions (PMB) at Universitas BSI can be accessed via https://pmbubsi.id. Because in a world that is increasingly busy with understanding technology, there will always be a need for those who are able to understand humans.
