Amidst National Dhikr and Prayer, Baznas Urges the Ummah to Strengthen Unity Through Zakat Movement

The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia has invited all elements of the nation to continue strengthening national unity and cohesion through the movement of zakat, infaq, and sadaqah. This national message was conveyed during the National Dhikr and Prayer event titled “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia,” held at the National Monument (Monas) field, Jakarta, on Saturday (1/8/202<0xC2>6).

The Chairman of Baznas RI, Sodik Mudjahid, emphasised in his message that zakat plays a dual and highly strategic role in national and state life. “Zakat is not merely a ritual religious obligation, but a powerful national instrument to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, unite diversity, and improve the welfare of the ummah in a fair and equitable manner,” he stated in a press release received on Sunday (2/8/2026).

Sodik added that this activity serves as a momentum to strengthen national values, brotherhood, and mutual cooperation (gotong royong) through the zakat movement as a collective effort to realise the welfare of the people and the progress of the nation.

During the event, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof KH Nasaruddin Umar, also expressed his appreciation for the management of zakat by philanthropic institutions in Indonesia. According to him, the management of national philanthropy and zakat continues to show positive development.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the management of religious social finance continues to show positive performance. In 2025, national zakat collection grew by 12 per cent to Rp44.6 trillion, providing benefits to 140 million mustahik (zakat recipients),” he said.
