Amidst Kapolri Replacement Rumours, Ahmad Sahroni Says Listyo Sigit's Performance Remains Good

Jakarta (VIVA) – Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Ahmad Sahroni believes the recent rumours regarding the replacement of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo did not emerge without reason. According to him, certain parties are deliberately fuelling the issue because they do not want Listyo Sigit to continue leading the National Police (Polri).

The statement was made by Sahroni in response to news claiming the President had sent a Presidential Letter (Surpres) to the DPR regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief. He confirmed that the DPR has not yet received such a letter.

‘If you already know, then you reveal it. We don’t have it, there’s nothing at all yet,’ Sahroni said at the DPR RI Building in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to the NasDem Party politician, the intense rumours about the replacement of the National Police Chief are understandable given that General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has served as National Police Chief for about five years. However, he suspects the issue continues to circulate because certain parties do not want Listyo Sigit to remain in the top position at Polri.

‘But the issue regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief is blowing hard. It’s natural, he has been in office for five years,’ Sahroni said. ‘Because it’s been a long time, there are people who don’t like it. Just accept it,’ he continued.

Despite the issue developing in the public sphere, Sahroni confirmed there is no official process regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief currently underway in the DPR. Amidst the emerging rumours, Sahroni actually assessed that General Listyo Sigit Prabowo’s performance in leading the National Police has been good. Therefore, he believes the speculation about the replacement cannot be used as a basis to claim that a replacement process is truly ongoing. According to him, the mechanism for replacing the National Police Chief has a clear procedure and must begin with the submission of a Presidential Letter to the DPR.

Sahroni confirmed that to date, the DPR has not received a Presidential Letter regarding the replacement of the National Police Chief. Thus, there has been no discussion regarding a candidate to replace General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in parliament. A similar statement was also made by the Chair of the DPR’s Commission III, Habiburokhman. He denied reports claiming that a Presidential Letter for the replacement of the National Police Chief had been sent to the DPR.
