Amid Student Protest, KAI Commuter to Implement Operational Adjustments

KAI Commuter has stated that Commuter Line operations are still running normally this afternoon. Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, said management will adjust train operations in response to the student demonstration centred at the Bundaran HI. “KAI Commuter continues to monitor developments on the ground and is ready to implement situational operational adjustments following field conditions, while prioritising the safety, security, and comfort of users,” Karina said in a written statement on Friday, 12 June 2026. According to KAI Commuter data, 406,139 people had boarded the Commuter Line by 1:00 PM WIB. At Sudirman Station, 45,204 people disembarked, Juanda Station saw 21,598 people, Palmerah Station had 23,994 people, and Tanah Abang Station recorded 27,310 people. Karina stated that the number of security personnel on standby at these stations totalled 72, consisting of 22 personnel at Palmerah Station, 23 personnel at Sudirman Station, and 27 personnel at Juanda Station. The additional KAI Commuter security personnel comprise internal officers as well as members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the National Police. They are stationed at stations close to the demonstration site, such as Juanda Station, Palmerah Station, Sudirman Station, and Tanah Abang Station. “All Commuter Line users are urged to always follow the directions and instructions from officers at the station,” she said. Today, a crowd consisting of students from the University of Indonesia and other campuses gathered at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia to voice protests regarding various government policies and the current economic situation. Law enforcement officers are also on standby at the gathering point.
