Amid Energy Crisis, Bobibos Declares Readiness for Road Testing
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesian Original Fuel Made by Indonesia (Bobibos) attended an audience invitation with the Directorate General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday (13/4/2026). The meeting signals that BOBIBOS will soon conduct road tests in accordance with applicable regulations.
During the meeting, Bobibos representatives explained that their fuel is ready for testing. The BOBIBOS team has already conducted a series of internal tests. “We have tested it on various brands of motorcycles, cars, diesel vehicles, and even trucks. The emissions are zero and it is more fuel-efficient,” said Bobibos Founder, Iklas Thamrin, in his statement on Monday (13/4/2026).
Meanwhile, Bobibos Advisor, Mulyadi, explained that the fuel is derived from rice straw. This material is usually wasted as it is burned by farmers. Through Bobibos, Mulyadi believes farmers will gain multiplied benefits.
“With the presence of Bobibos, farmers will smile twice. At harvest, there is rice; after harvest, the straw has economic value,” said Mulyadi.
Mulyadi stated that the Bobibos innovation will have a significant impact on Indonesia amid the global energy crisis. Among other things, it will reduce fuel imports, improve farmers’ welfare, and lessen the environmental impact of fossil petrol.
“And most importantly, it will create job opportunities,” said the Gerindra politician.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Laode Sulaeman, stated that Indonesia could become a solution for petrol fuel that is still imported. Therefore, Laode supports the Bobibos innovation to undergo a series of tests. “Later, tests will be conducted on car and motorcycle vehicles. We will focus there,” said Laode.
Laode also instructed the Director of Technical and Environmental Affairs, Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Noor Arifin Muhammad, to lead a team together with Bobibos representatives.
Laode reminded that several permits need to be applied for by Bobibos to other ministries, including those related to sales permits. “Later, we will just discuss the technical aspects. We will compile what is needed,” said Laode.
