Amid Child Abuse Cases, Banten DPRD Urges Provincial Government to Check Daycare Licences
The Secretary of Commission V of the Banten DPRD, Rifky Hermiansyah, has requested that the Banten Provincial Government check and scrutinise all daycares in the region. He stated that this is to anticipate child abuse cases similar to the one that occurred at Little Aresha daycare in Yogyakarta.
“We request that the DP3AKKB, together with district and city governments, sweep through all daycares, ensure their legality, and check whether they meet the established operational standards,” Rifky told reporters on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
According to him, local governments must play an active role in ensuring that every daycare operates in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. There should be no oversights allowing daycares to perpetrate violence against entrusted children, he said.
“Strict supervision is very important to guarantee the safety and development of the children entrusted to these facilities,” he added.
For him, the incident in Yogyakarta should serve as a lesson for all regions to tighten supervision of child care institutions. Additionally, it is important for caregivers to hold professional certifications.
He encouraged local governments to create easy reporting mechanisms, so that the public can easily report any issues or suspected abuse.
“The safety and comfort of children must be the top priority. There should be no negligence that leads to acts of violence,” he stressed.
Commission V of the Banten DPRD will monitor these steps and is ready to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure optimal supervision across the entire Banten region.
“With these efforts, it is hoped that all daycare institutions can provide safe, comfortable services that meet standards, so that parents do not feel worried when entrusting their children,” he said.
It was previously reported that police raided Little Aresha daycare on Friday (24/4). During the raid, officers found children in bound conditions.
The average age of the victims was under two years. Police then secured 30 people in the raid.
After intensive examination, 13 people were designated as suspects in the Little Aresha daycare abuse case. The suspects include foundation leaders to caregivers.
Regarding the motive, it is still under police investigation. So far, there are 53 documented child victims.
“So, until last night, we held a case review and then designated 13 people as interim suspects,” said Yogyakarta Police Chief Kombes Eva Guna Pandia, as quoted by detikJogja on Saturday (25/4).
