AMI Awards still discussing classification regarding AI in music

Representatives of the AMI Categorisation Committee, Syahrani, stated that the Anugerah Musik Indonesia is still in the process of discussing the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in music.

According to Syahrani, the discussions are currently following the guidelines of the Indonesian Recording Industry Association (Asiri). Overall, the committee is still debating how the legal subject for award recipients should be structured.

“For instance, whether it is 50 per cent AI, or just the lyrics, or perhaps the entire music and musicians are replaced by AI, there are many small details to consider. Therefore, it is not yet clear whether this will eventually enter its own specific classification or not,” Syahrani told the media in Jakarta on Monday.

He continued that the classification of AI in music will raise various questions, especially as many works are being produced using this technology. Consequently, software or tools will be required to detect the use of AI, which would necessitate significant investment.

“It is not something that can be obtained easily. So, it is still a work in progress. We hope everything can proceed smoothly because I believe this is an issue being processed all over the world,” he added.

Syahrani further noted that AI-based production is becoming a significant future challenge for the AMI Awards.
