American Kwon wins Bakrie singles title

JAKARTA: Chris Kwon of the U.S. beat Jan Masik of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4 in the final of the Bakrie Indonesia ITF Men's Satellite Circuit on Saturday in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Kwon, who won US$800, was able to overcome the strong baseline play of Masik, serving five aces in the match.

"Kwon deserves the win because he played better," Masik, who received $560, said.

The local pairing of Suwandi and veteran Bonit Wiryawan triumphed in the men's doubles over compatriots Sunu Wahyu Trijati and Andry Setyawanto.

Suwandi and Bonit, 37, lost a second set tiebreaker before racing through the decider 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-1 for the $400 winner's check.

"We actually could have won the second set, but we lost our focus and they won it. But we got it back and took the tourney," said Suwandi. -- JP
