American couple's bodies to be cremated

DENPASAR, Bali: The bodies of two Americans who were discovered in a hotel in Kuta, Bali, will be cremated on Friday at Nusa Dua at the behest of their families.

The couple's remains "will be sent to their bereaved families in the United States," Gus Sumastra, the head of Bali's Inter- nation Service Bureau, said in Denpasar on Thursday.

The bodies of 31-year-old Kelly Slapin from Oklahoma, and his girlfriend, Stacil Sweeney, 24, from Florida, were found in a state of decay in their hotel room. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

They had been on vacation in Bali since Nov. 14.

Slapin and Sweeney were the 52nd and 53rd foreign tourists to die while visiting the resort island. --Antara
