Amendments to the
Amendments to the 1945 Constitution
From Republika
If we study closely the amended 1945 Constitution, we will find that some articles overlap, leading to misinterpretation and endangering the integrity of the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia.
Let's see, for example, the contradiction between Article 18 and Article 33 of the amended Constitution. It is said in the former that a regional administration is allowed freedom to implement regional autonomy in the broadest manner possible, but the latter states that the state controls all natural resources in the country.
Now that a Constitution commission has been set up based on the stipulation of the People's Consultative Assembly, it is expected that the amended Constitution will be reviewed to ensure that the amendment does not serve vested interests.
The public must also help examine the amended articles of the Constitution to ensure that they are not harmful to the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia. The press can play its role also, by promoting the amendments to the general public. Last but not least, the Assembly should refrain from allowing itself to be influenced by opportunists.
