Amdatara and Central Java Government Strengthen Natural Resource Management and Circular Economy

The Nusantara Bottled Drinking Water Entrepreneurs Association (Amdatara) and the Central Java Provincial Government are strengthening collaboration on sustainable water resource management and the development of a circular economy to support responsible industrial growth. The commitment emerged during an audience between Amdatara Central Java–DIY and Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi at the Governor’s Office on Wednesday (1/7). Governor Luthfi emphasised the importance of sustainable water resource management, compliance with groundwater utilisation regulations, and the strengthening of environmental conservation and circular economy programmes by industry players. Responding to this, Amdatara Chairman Karyanto Wibowo stated that the bottled drinking water industry shares a common interest with the government and the public in preserving water resources. ‘For us, water is not only the main raw material but also a shared asset that must be protected. Therefore, water conservation and environmental protection are inseparable parts of the industry’s sustainability,’ Karyanto said in a statement. He added that the industry cannot grow without sustainable water sources, making sustainability a shared interest between the government, society, and businesses. ‘We hope that stronger collaboration can continue to be built to support inclusive, competitive, and sustainable development in Central Java.’ Karyanto explained that nationally, the bottled drinking water industry comprises around 707 factories with a total production capacity of 47 billion litres per year. The industry directly employs approximately 46,000 workers and creates millions of economic opportunities through supply chains, distribution, logistics, trade, and MSMEs. Amdatara affirmed that all industry players are obliged to comply with regulations regarding water resource utilisation, environmental conservation, and monitoring and reporting obligations. Various member companies also run conservation programmes through the protection of water catchment areas, land rehabilitation, construction of infiltration wells, tree planting, and public education on water resource preservation. Amdatara also conveyed several aspirations to the Central Java Provincial Government, including the importance of harmonising regulations between central and regional governments, data-based and scientific water resource management, and support for sustainable investment by environmentally compliant industries. The meeting also served as a platform to announce plans for the Amdatara Central Java–DIY Regional Conference.
