Ambon KSOP spot-checks 18 ships for Lebaran 2026 sea transport
As many as 18 ships, or about 86 percent, have undergone spot checks to ensure operational readiness in serving the public in Ambon. The Head of the Maritime Traffic Section (Kabid Lala) KSOP Ambon, Iyan Ashari, in Ambon, Maluku, on Sunday, said the inspections were part of an effort to ensure ships that will operate meet safety and seaworthiness standards. “From 21 ships based in Ambon, 18 ships or about 86 percent have undergone spot checks to ensure readiness of operations in serving the public for this year’s Lebaran transport,” he said. He explained that the spot checks involve inspecting various safety aspects of ships, from the completeness of documents, the condition of safety equipment, navigational gear, to crew readiness. According to him, these checks are important so that the fleet serving passengers during the Lebaran period is seaworthy and provides a sense of safety for the public. In addition to ensuring ship readiness, KSOP Ambon has prepared three main ports to serve both the exodus and return flows for Lebaran 2026 in the area. “The three ports prepared to serve the exodus flows are Yos Sudarso Port Ambon, Slamet Riyadi Port and Siwabessy Port,” he said. He added that the three ports are the main points for passenger ship services travelling from Ambon to various parts of Maluku and eastern Indonesia. KSOP Ambon also continues to coordinate with ship operators, related agencies, and port authorities to ensure all services run smoothly during the Lebaran transport period. “We hope that with these spot checks, all operating ships can provide safe, comfortable service in accordance with sailing safety standards,” he said. He urged the public travelling home by sea to pay attention to departure schedules and to comply with safety rules while aboard.
