Ambon gamblers stage protest

AMBON, Maluku: Some 400 sellers and distributors of togel
gambling coupons staged a protest outside Ambon City Council on
Monday, protesting a move to stop the practice.

"If togel is not allowed, karaoke lounges and red-light
districts should also be closed," called Yantje P., one of the
protesters.

He claimed that togel has helped people to make a living.

"Many people here still live in shelters and togel can help
them earn money," he charged.

He also urged the administration to find alternative work for
the distributors before clamping down on gambling. -- JP
